Home for the Holidays: Thanksgiving Weekend Events for the Whole Family

After the turkey and pie, head out with the whole family to one of these events designed to entertain and educate.

Exploration Workshop for Families at The SF Opera on November 24

This interactive family workshop accompanies SF Opera’s “It’s a Wonderful Life” to unpack Jake Heggie and Gene Scheer’s inspiration for this new production. Learn about the music, production design, stories and characters. Attendance at an opera performance is not required to participate in the workshops.  See more.

Curious Contraptions at the Exploratorium

The Exploratorium presents “Curious Contraptions,” a dive into the whimsical world of automata: small, surreal mechanical sculptures that imitate human motion. Simple mechanisms bring them to life to perform mini dramas and reflect their maker’s humor. Kids can learn the inner-mechanics of these phenomenal low-tech machines, then go home and start building.  See details.

The Velveteen Rabbit: ODC/Dance at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts Theater

ODC/Dance enlivens Margery Williams' classic tale of a well-worn nursery rabbit that becomes real. Told through music, dance, and a powerful narrative, The Velveteen Rabbit celebrates the unique relationship between a little boy and his stuffed rabbit, and the enduring power of love.  Learn more.
